ELOUNDA BEACHES MAIN BEACH
Please note for your information I have been in touch with Intentional Blue Flag Co-ordination and I received this E-mail :
Dear Stephen, Thanks for your message. We do not know which beaches you are referring to. But according to the Blue Flag criteria, there must be public access to the beach. In most cases this is free. Some hotels raise a fee for public visitors. Kind regards,
This was in answer to an email I sent Blue Flag concerning public access to hotel beaches please also note that most hotel beaches fly the Blue Flag!
There are many more beaches in and around Elounda I will be adding them to this page soon with photos

ELOUNDA BEACHES THE PUBLIC BEACH
Before you get to the windmills on the left of the road you will see the public beach which is what the Greeks call it. This beach has toilets and sun beds etc.
THE PUBLIC BEACH BEFORE THE BRIDGE TO THE WINDMILLS
There are many beaches in Elounda, the main beach is a long stretch of sharp sandy beach north of the small port. It is not exposed to wind it has Sun beds for rent, there are restaurants and a hotel near to the beach. A children's play area, public toilets are also available. The beach has the Blue Flag award.
Some like to walk or drive over to the canal area of Elounda follow the track past the old windmills until you see another track leading off to the right. Its about a 10 minute slow drive along this path. You then will have to park your car and walk down to the beach, to the left of this there is a rocky shore. To the right a very small and beautiful fine white sand beach. The water is beautiful here and calm. Problem here is sometimes boats from Agios Nikolaos moor close to here for BQs so sometimes the beauty and silence can be shattered, the boats start to visit about 11:00 in the morning I think. Please note there are no facilities here. Leave nothing on the sand other than your footprints.
There is a smaller beach south of the port, this is also sharp sand and is sheltered from any winds.
