I am proposing to start a Voucher and Map Booklet which will be distributed to visitors to Crete. I am hoping the distribution will be from the local airports on Crete and tourist agents. I also hope to include seaports in the distribution network. Initially the booklet will offer free information to visitors about 2 villages, Elounda and Plaka but depending on how successful this type of booklet is, it maybe spread to other areas in the future. As I said the booklet will offer information about these 2 villages but will also offer a voucher system that will allow the holders of the book(users) to save on purchases from shops and services in these 2 areas. To allow the small local businesses to enter this scheme without paying advertising costs, the organizers and the people who run and own this system will not take any money from the system. It will be a none profit venture all money earned from advertising would be put back into the voucher and map book system. Of course doing this also keeps the costs down for those who wish to advertise through this system.
The whole idea of this system is to get these 2 villages back onto the tourist map, but also get more interest in these areas from other type of businesses which would not be directly effected by actual tourism. If you are an estate agent having more people visiting Elounda and Plaka would all be potential customers/clients. But not only that it would also generate pride in the area, streets would improve, buildings would improve, and most important the standard of living would improve. All this type of improvement would also help in your business whatever the business.

The Scheme
I have a business here in Elounda so I want this scheme to be a success to bring more people into the area which brings investment into the area. I could have started this scheme as a money making venture but decided that this was not the way ahead. Making a fast buck out of this system would be easy once you got the businesses interested but even getting this far it would be short lived. Someone else would also start and copy the scheme and undercut and destroy the system. How many people want to start a scheme that will make them no money ? Well I guess not many, like I said the scheme is here looking more to the future and what the scheme can bring to the area.
