A few years ago I started a forum post on the Elounda77 forum called "Help Elounda" it got 3,902 views and lots of discussion before it was locked, you can see it here: http://www.makeitgreece.net/showthread.php?t=367&highlight=save+elounda sadly things are getting no better and we need to act....NOW !
The year 2010 was the worst over recent years with less tourists visiting Crete, Elounda and Agios. At the end of the year even more businesses have closed many of these are Greek owned businesses. If something is not done 2011 will be no better and actually could be a lot worse.
Some people think because an expensive Greek production was filmed on Spinalonga over 2010 that this will help Elounda and Plaka. Wrong this will not help as it has not been marketed abroad as yet. Even if they started to market it next year (2011) it wouldn't be until 2012 before people would start showing interest in coming to Elounda and Plaka. Even then it maybe that people will just visit the island and bypass Elounda and Plaka as so many have done for so long now.
The holiday companies and tourist offices will only market Spinalonga, fully inclusive and exclusive hotels in the areas not the towns and villages ! The hotels will not market the village because they want you to stay in the hotel and spend money.
EloundaInfo for the last few years have been marketing the village and Elounda77 for a much longer period. It is not enough, I get thousands of visitors a month on my website and as does Elounda77, yet here we are with businesses closing and a lack of tourism.
Yes it is true, but many visitors who visit Elounda regularly will be visiting again in 2011 ! and they know people who will be taking holiday's in 2011, how many of these people have said or tried to sell Elounda as a holiday destination ? Yes I know it is so nice to have the village with just a few visitors, it is nice to not have to cue for a meal at your favorite restaurant its wonderful not to have to wait for a drink in your favorite bar. Sorry but these bars and restaurants can not survive off the regular visitors alone, there is just not enough of the regular visitor anymore.
The Info Group will be actively marketing Elounda to the best of it's ability. I am at this moment producing a video to post onto FaceBook And YouTube, I have a local musician and photographer who will be offering their services for free. Also a longer DVD Format of the "video" will be for sale at a greatly reduced price to cover time, DVD burning and postage.
The DVD will contain Greek Music, video a photo gallery, interviews with local businesses and tourists (pre-arranged through this website) content sent in by you.
You can send in just about anything that you have about Elounda, Plaka and Agios

I will soon be in talks with a local musician about producing music Cd's
Well first I have to produce the FREE video that will be uploaded to the website including FaceBook, YouTube, EloundaInfo and other sites. This will be a video advertising Elounda and surrounding towns and villages. It will also be an advert for the new DVD. The DVD will be a professional looking product and depending on how long it takes to get enough content should be ready for sale in time for Christmas 2011 if not before. This sounds a long time to produce it but I am but one man who has to work through the summer as well as producing the DVD.
Pictures, texts and other small type content can be sent to my email address or through a form on this site which I will be opening soon. Video is a little more difficult because of the size, but I am working on it.
