On the 25th of January I was at the Bar Bee as a very special event was taking place. Rita Sanghita is a native of Holland but has lived in Elounda since 1996. In 2005 she visited Nepal as a volunteer, while she was in Nepal she wrote a diary about her experiences in Nepal. This diary is a beautiful account of the people and especially the children she met in Nepal and their heart breaking stories. On Sunday the 25th of January Rita organized a Tom-bola at the Bar Bee Elounda in aid of the children of Nepal.
Rita And Just Some Of The Children Who Have Been Touched By The Kindness Of Rita Sanghita

About Me
Rita Sanghita was born and educated in Holland. In 1996 she came to live in Elounda, Crete. In 2005 she visited Nepal for the first time as a volunteer. Whilst in Nepal in 2005 Rita kept a diary. On her return she was diagnosed with breast cancer, so it was only in 2007 that her diary was made into a book and February 2008 she was able to go back to Nepal. Her book follows her day to day experiences during her stay as a volunteer in C.W.A. in Pokhara. It is a heart-warming account of the people she met, the children she helped and the life long friends she made and hopes to return to every winter. The children stole her heart AND made her find herself. (written by Penny). With her return to Nepal in February 2008 AND February 2009 she is going to rewrite her first book. She will add more general info about Nepal and its people, the way they live, think and interact with others. Nepal: destination or destiny? (tourist or volunteer?) A 'personal' travel guide with fragments of the diary, pictures of nature and people.

The Tom-bola At full Swing 25th January Bar Bee
On the 25th of January at about 12:00 midday I parked my car outside the Bar Bee. A few day's before my reporter Christine had told me that she was helping with a tom-bola event in aid of helping the children of Nepal. When I first walked into the Bar Bee I noticed Rita straight away as she was wearing a traditional dress of Nepal.
Rita gave me lot's of information about the work she is doing in Nepal and also showed me around the displays.
Displays like this one to the left with photographs, information and the children's heart breaking stories.
I also sat down and read from Rita's diary that she had made into a book and published herself. The diary was of her time in Nepal in 2005 with photographs of the children and under the picture the full story of each child. Also in the diary is Rita's own personal day to day experiences and thoughts.
Music from Nepal played in the background also photographs of Rita's travels to Nepal displayed through the television. Also on offer was the traditional food of the Nepal people. The people eat this food 7 day's a week 2 times a day 365 day's of the year. Lentil and rice soup and vegetable curry and potatoes. Dahl Bath which is what it is called is very nice, however I do not think I could eat it twice a day every day !
The 7 Day A Week Diet Of The People Of Nepal. The food was prepared with the help of the Lotus Eaters Taverna and served by them at the event.
The whole event was well organized and very informative, the best thing about it, it was for a good cause. Many people turned up to the event and not shy to put their hand in their pocket all for a good cause. A very decent €600 was raised that day, and everyone who went to the event should know that every cent will go to the help of the children in Nepal.
I would like to thank the owners and staff of Bar Bee for staging the event and to all the people who made it a success. Most of all I think we all would like to thank Rita Sanghita for her amazing passion and love for the people of Nepal. I talked with Rita for a long while and she is going back very soon to Nepal. The next time she goes she is trying to get some of the people of Elounda to go with her, after hearing her story and reading some of her book I am seriously thinking about me and my partner going with her next year 2010. If we do go, be sure I will have lot's of pictures and great amounts of articles to publish here on EloundaInfo.com.....so watch this space.
Lot's of prizes for the lucky winners donated by so many including gifts from Nepal and the people and businesses of Elounda
Very good displays with photographs and lots of information about the work that Rita does in Nepal
Nepal-Elounda Nepal Day Tombola
We raised an amount of 600 Euro!
Together with the money, that people donated on my special Nepal account I am now at a total of 808 Euro! I will be working hard to divide this money on several projects.
