“ΧΑΡΟΥΠΙΑ” Haroupia Opening Night Plaka
If anyone wanted to escape from World Cup football, Plaka was the place to be on Saturday evening, where  four musicians played traditional Cretan music.  They were  George Zacharioudaki  who played wind instruments and lyre, Stavros Tsagarakis on percussion and oud, Costa Tsamandoura on lyra and guitar and  Vangelis Tsagarakis on bouzouki and lute.

The occasion was the opening of Haroupia, a new restaurant situated on the main road in Plaka, next door to the small supermarket.  The restaurant shares an outdoor seating area with Pefko, the Pine Tree Cafe Bar, and by 10.00, about 100 people were gathered there to eat, drink and listen to the music.
The Occasion
There were people of all ages and  many different nationalities, both locals and holiday-makers, all drawn by the sound of these very talented musicians. They played from 9.00 until late, sitting under the carob or locust tree from which Haroupia gets its name.  It was a warm, still evening, and the atmosphere was perfect.  It is always good to be able to hear live Cretan music in a setting such as this it certainly makes it an evening to remember.  We didn't sample the food this time we're saving that for another day!

An Evening To Remember
We will be doing a full review of the restaurant later. Just remains for us to wish the new restaurant Haroupia well for the season and the future.

We Wish Them Well For The Season And For The Future.
