Elounda is maintaining its reputation as a brilliant setting for films and TV productions. Kanali, the taverna at the end of the causeway, has recently been used for shooting scenes for the film Red Sky.
Red Sky is a “contemporary story about love, friendship and betrayal” according to the film's web site www.redsky-film.com.
The main part of the film will be shot in Crete, with some filming possibly taking place in Pano Elounda.

New Multi Storey Parking in Elounda?
Is this a sign of things to come or has Paul from Rudi's Bar found a novel way of solving Elounda's parking problems?

May 18th 1990 – two brothers, Nikos and Yiannis Drakonakis opened a new bar in Elounda. 20 years later, the bar is still going strong! The first opening night wasn't straightforward – Nikos had a broken arm at the time – but the bar became a success.
The bar has seen many changes over the years. It is a comfortable place to have a drink or something to eat during the day. It's the perfect place for people-watching, as they pass by on their way to the Spinalonga boats or to the harbour, shops and beach. Then in the evening it becomes a lively bar, staying open till very late.
The 20th Anniversary party was just such an occasion. The bar was decorated with huge orange balloons and there were 4 DJs playing house, r'n'b, electro and hip -hop until the early hours. There was a large crowd of all ages, inside and out … and a great night was had by all!

Power cut in the village 10pm approx till 1.10am (ish) and fire in the Porto Rino / Mezzo area about midnight. Have been told it was Porto Rino kitchen but not confirmed. Flames appeared on roof and looked serious. 3 fire appliances attended, the big one staying approx an hour and a half, plus several police cars. No more info at moment.
