Retiring abroad ? Well Elounda could be the place for you. But first there are some questions you should ask yourself first.

1) Why do you want to retire abroad?

2) Can you afford to retire abroad?

3) What is the cost of living in the country you want to move to?

4) Will your benefits change when you move abroad?

5) Will you move abroad permanent or say 6 months abroad 6 months in your home country?

6) If you are planning to move over with a spouse or partner could you cope in a foreign country on your own if your partner dies?

7) Could you cope with not seeing your friends and family as much as you did?

8) How will you cope with a different culture and the problems that may cause?

Its a lot to think about and its important you can answer these questions before making such a big move. Some of these questions can be answered by asking the correct authorities but some of the most important can only be answered by yourself and your partner. However I am not trying to put you off from doing to what is to many a dream, and if you feel you have looked at the questions above and feel you can answer them with a positive then you should have no problems. Well no more problems we all face in our everyday lives.

I am not a professional and you should always seek advice from the people that are. Many people have retired to Elounda and if you have ever been on holiday here then you would see why. For one thing its very quiet and has the feeling of village life. The weather is of course mostly hot and dry but can be cold and wet in the winter. House prices in Elounda are very expensive you could find a house outside of Elounda somewhat cheaper. If you want to stay in Elounda but find you are on a tight budget you could always rent an apartment or house, this usually works out a lot cheaper. I myself rent a ground floor 2 bedroom apartment half the price it would cost me in England. The Greek locals in Elounda are generally nice but living here is different from being on holiday they will become your neighbours. You will find many British living here in Elounda some are working some are retired and some like me who own businesses. The British here have a very tight community but that does not mean you have to be part of it if you don't want to.

Well that's about it you could be living your dream and many do but the rest is up to you and the list of questions you read earlier. Hope to see you soon in Elounda. Click here for interview with retired couple living in Elounda.
