Introduction
If you come to Elounda you may see a strange looking vessel floating around the small pier of Elounda. This amazing looking boat is called the SHARK'S EYE a glass bottomed boat. But it's not just any ordinary glass bottomed boat it's a hydrofoil with neck braking speed it takes you on a voyage of luxury and adventure above and below the waves.
I was lucky enough to have the chance of going on one of the tours with Captain Yiannis and his crew of one, on the Shark's Eye.

The Boat
First let me tell you a little about this amazing boat. The boat was originally built in Russia it has a top speed of 45 knots as you speed through the water you can see the hydrofoil lifting out of the water

Looking like some kind of Alien Space Craft the hydrofoil and glass dome can clearly be seen..
Wonderful Colours Of The Crystal Water
It was about 3.15pm when I boarded the Shark's Eye the first thing I noticed was how well planned the layout of this boat is. From the outside the boat does not look so large yet inside there was more than enough room, with lots of seating. The seats to the stern of the boat are situated on the outside deck with lots of seating a large canopy protects you from the sun. The bow and down some steps is the main seating area with the glass bottom, seating surrounds the glass dome. This is of course the main viewing area where you can view the bottom of the sea and all it's life. The next thing I noticed was how well decorated the boat is and very tastefully done.
A little time into our journey I was thinking I should have brought some water to drink......then the crew member brought us all some cold melon ...Nice touch. Later ice cold fruit juice, these nice little touches makes all the difference. The crew member who is German but speaks better English than I, told us the story of Spinalonga and pointed out interesting features of the surrounding land as we made our way past Spinalonga Island. I noticed that both Yiannis and the crew member loved what they were doing, this was not just a job for these 2 men. Such enthusiasm was contagious which made the whole experience a fantastic one.

It was feeding time, Captain Yiannis stopped the boat and threw some food into the beautiful blue water. Fish of all shapes, colours and sizes appeared as if by magic.

After the feed we could if we wish have a swim. The journey back to Elounda Port was relaxed and informative. We got back to port about 4.45pm if we had took the offer of a swim it would have been near 5pm when we got back. A 1 and a half hour informative and fantastic trip.
