These are my own thoughts on the subject I may be wrong, however I have been thinking about this very subject now for sometime. The day's when Elounda was bustling with tourists have now I think gone, don't get me wrong there will always be tourists in Elounda without a doubt, but I think a different type of tourist. I think and I know a lot of people who will not agree with me here, I think Elounda is going through a change and this change will effect just about everyone who has a business here in Elounda. Slowly but surely I think Elounda is turning into a mostly exclusive residential area and a more exclusive tourist/visitor too. More and more people are buying property in the area, there are more high flyers taking there holiday's here in Elounda. More Exclusive hotels are being built to cater for the more exclusive visitors.
The small hotels are finding it difficult to survive as are the apartments, of course if there was some more exclusive apartments and villas up for holiday rental I think that sort of business would do very well. It is well known that Elounda has some of the most exclusive hotels in Greece and in fact in Europe. Elounda has always been the destination of the rich and the famous and still very much so. I guess that if anyone in business wants to make money in Elounda then they should gear themselves up towards these types of visitors. I have noticed a few businesses doing just this and I think they will start to reap the rewards very soon, slowly but surely they will. I think the days of the package holiday in Elounda is now just about gone and slowly the more exclusive holiday company's will start looking for exclusive rental villas and even apartments. So my advise to anyone with a block of apartments or a small hotel you better get more than just a paint brush out. It is time for the small hotel owners to start thinking how they can get more people into the rooms, well how about if you knock 2 or more rooms into one for a start and start spending some reasonable amounts of cash on up-grading to a more exclusive cliental. This can also be said for other types of businesses but I am afraid it has to start with the small hotels and apartments. If you can get the more exclusive type of visitor staying in the Elounda Village itself then the business shops restaurants, bars will start to do fantastic trade. Soon there will be a new road passing through and around Elounda slowly the town/village is changing towards a even more cosmopolitan feel to it, but it hangs on to the business owners to start thinking a little more of the future of the tourist in Elounda and what these new breed of tourist will want from the business owner.
Look at the exclusive hotels and see what they offer the clients, if you do this I think you will see something that is missing from your business at the moment.
Everyone who comes to Greece say "they love the lay back way of life !" Well I am sorry this is no good in business, if you want to make money you are now going to have to work for it.
